José Luis Caballero is a journalist with a Degree in Information Science from the University of Barcelona, specializing in International Relations and Secret Services. For years he switched between journalism and publishing short stories in diverse publications and in 1996 published his first novel, Como lágrimas en la lluvia (Mercuria, 1996). Las cartas de Antioquía (Meteora, 2006) and El espía imperfecto (Roca, 2009) followed. La ruta de los contrabandistas is his fourth novel.
