The brutal murder of a woman puts police in the peaceful city of Berlai on alert. Next to the body there is a press cutting which links the murder to Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer and, firmly believing that they are dealing with a serial killer, the police contact the person that they think best knows the great love poet. Ariel Conceiro, librarian and incorrigible bibliophile, lives chained to the painful memory of a past love. His life is limited to his love for books and for jazz, and his visits to his mother at the old people's home where she is spending the last years of her life. A visit from inspector Talironte, who is young, seductive and brash, and her colleague Batista, in relation to the Becquer case, will break the monotony of his life with their request for his help on the case, to which he won't be able to say no.
