The old nanny of the Morales family leaves, after years in retirement, to take to the mountains. When the family find her, she is holding two bundles, one under each arm: on one side is a deformed baby, and on the other a honeycomb with its bees. When the nanny insists on keeping and caring for the child, the Morales Cortés family decides to adopt him. Simonopio, as he is christened, grows up with two permanent marks: a hollow in his face that prevents him from speaking, and his miraculous relationship with the bees that are always with him, guiding him. Simonopio eventually changes the story of his family and the whole region. To do this, he has to confront his fears, the enemy stalking them all and the great threats of the revolution: war, the Spanish influence and the violent confrontations between those who want other people's land, and those protecting their property at all costs.
