The early 20th century: a lawyer without a future, a frustrated anarchist, an ex prostitute, a clairvoyant, and an unemployed teacher. The owner of a guesthouse has the felicitous idea of setting up a circus company, and each of the guests tries to bring out the best of their talents to achieve a presentable performance. Meanwhile, lawyer Ignacio Wallinstein is investigating the disappearance of one of the clients of the firm he works for: a case that is becoming more and more complicated, and which reveals to him an unknown side to the firm’s supposedly uptight, serious secretary, the surprising Señorita Beltrán. A novel with many voices and a detective plot, halfway between a comedy and a folkloric novel.
