'Between Net Curtains' (Premio Nadal 1957) portrays the atmosphere, conservatism and hypocrisy beneath the surface of a Spanish provincial city in the middle of the previous century. The apparently banal conversations between the young protagonists of this novel will allow us to become familiar with their worries, their fear of remaining unmarried, the monotony of their lives, their outings, their first boyfriends, dances in the casino and that sadness that is hidden behind boredom and a lack of imagination. The arrival of the new and attractive German teacher will arouse a desire to free themselves from conformism and this oppressive atmosphere.
