Bea and Guille
María Menéndez-Ponte was born in La Coruña. She started to study Law at the Universidad de Santiago de Compostela, but before finishing the course got married, had her first child, and moved with her family to New York, where she lived for five years and did a distance learning undergraduate course from the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia. She them moved to Madrid, where she also graduated in Hispanic Philology. In the 1990s, she began to write novels and short stories for child and young adult readers. Many of her books have been bestsellers, including Nunca seré tu heroe (I'll Never Be Your Hero), which was awarded the Libro de Oro in 2006, when it sold over 100,000 copies. This title currently runs to over forty editions in various collections.
