When the Revolution Ends
Leila Nachawati Rego lectures in Journalism at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and is responsible for Communications at the international human rights organisation, Association for Progressive Communications. Specialising in the Middle East, she contributes to newspapers and media including Eldiario.es, El Mundo, Global Voices, Open Democracy and Al Jazeera English. In 2013, together with Syrian journalists, software developers and designers, she founded the website SyriaUntold, which seeks to represent the daily resistance of the Syrian people, alongside their artistic and cultural output. The daughter of a Syrian father and a Gallician mother, she grew up between Damascus and Santiago de Compostela, a heritage which fed her interest even as a child in cultural, social and political differences and similarities north and south of the Mediterranean. She speaks Spanish, Arabic, Gallego and English and has lived in Syria, Spain, the United States, Mexico and Morocco.
