In the middle of a relationship crisis, the protagonist returns to the episode that marked the abrupt end of her adolescence and her family's happiest years: the sudden death of her mother in Uruguay at the end of the 1960s, when it seemed nothing could disturb a sophisticated life of open air parties, days on the beach or trips to the estates. Obsessed by that end point, she will return many years later to reunite with childhood friends, women who knew her fascinating and seductive father, and those who can tell her why he had to leave for Spain so quickly following her mother's death. Winner of the 2018 Premio Tusquets for its seductive evocation of the cosmopolitan and unprejudiced lifestyle of 1960s Uruguay in contrast with the constraints of Spain, and its reflection on freedom, sex and the passage of time for a woman who lived these experiences as a child.
