Rafael Reig (born Cangas de Onís, 1963) studied philosophy and literature at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and has taught literature at several North American universities. He is currently a bookseller, chess player and columnist for a number of publications. His novels include, among others, 'Todo está perdonado' ('All Is Forgiven') (winner of the 2010 Premio Tusquets Editores de Novela ), 'Lo que no está escrito' '(That Which Is Unwritten') (Winner of the 2014 Pata Negra prize for best crime fiction) and 'Un árbol caído' ('A Fallen Tree') along with two fantastic novels about the history of literature: 'Señales de humo' ('Smoke Signals') (winner of the third Premio de Novela Solar de Samaniego) and 'La cadena trófica' ('The Food Chain'), which takes the form of a very specific literary manual for cannibals.
