Anne McLean translates Spanish and Latin American literature by authors including Héctor Abad, Julio Cortázar, Ignacio Martínez de Pisón and Enrique Vila-Matas. She has twice been awarded the Independent Foreign Fiction Prize: for Soldiers of Salamis by Javier Cercas (which also won her the Premio Valle Inclán) in 2004, and for The Armies by Evelio Rosero in 2009. She was recently awarded the Cruz de Oficial of the Order of Civil Merit in recognition of her contribution to making Spanish literature known to a wider public.
