The young teacher was on her way to a school in the Amazon jungle and she arrived laden with books. What her student's liked best was for her to read them stories. Then they would take the books home and their mothers and grandmothers, although they couldn't read, would look at them with curiosity. The people of the jungle villages used to tell many legends, and to begin with the young teacher believed this is all they were: legends. She was accustomed to the city and to books and, finding herself in this different reality, the young teacher was about to have a culture shock. However, she quickly realises that she is not the only one with things to teach. This book is a homage not only to all the teachers of Latin America, who leave behind everything else in order to pursue the dream of education, but also to the legends of the people who live in far flung places.
