Traffic is an original story of two boys; one from a middle-class family who suffers from heart problems, the other working-class and healthy, whose lives cross in tragic events that affect them and all those around them. With no pretension of social commentary, and even less of judgment, this novel presents two settings that are so close and yet so distant. The middle classes, self-important, false and ambitious, where appearance is everything, compared with life on the margins, where survival alone is a titanic struggle against a backdrop of poverty and violence. These two worlds forge very different characters in the people who inhabit the upper parts of Barcelona and the marginal districts like La Mina. Equals? Not at birth, less in life, and not even for death.
