The Son of Mama Dana is set in the depths of the Colombian coffee region, in a small village nestled in the mountains near the home of the Emberá peoples. The unusual Dutchman, Hyeronimus Paling, appears four times in the narrative and gradually reveals the scene, the characters in the drama, the situation of violence and impunity, and the silence that hangs over it all. The story transports us to a tragic reality of the mysterious murder of several drivers set in the middle of a permanent warfare between the military and groups of guerrilla fighters. And to the tragic yet magical life-on-the-edge of the people who live there. Each singular character and their peculiar way of taking on life shows the different ways they face the circumstances that surround them in the attempt to survive the chaotic world that devours everything in its path.
