Scotland, at the end of the 20th Century. Elisa decides to leave her old life behind to begin anew thousands of kilometres from her home, on the remote Orkney Islands. Her partner, Kylian, awaits her in this unremitting landscape, almost unpopulated and with a beauty that is at the same time, both captivating and wild. Kylian is a keen ornithologist who has spent years travelling the world, but on receiving an interesting work proposal decides to return to the country of his birth. Shortly after being reunited with him, while Elisa is still trying to adapt to the hostile environment and its climate that shape the rhythm of the days, they are hit by an important piece of news relating to Kylian's past, that overturns their immediate plans. How far do we have to go to escape from what we are leaving behind? What is the price we pay for protecting those we love most from the things that will hurt us?
