Emerson's Garden
Luis Landero (Alburquerque, Badajoz,1948) studied Hispanic philology at The Complutense University in Madrid, taught literature at Madrid's School of the Dramatic Arts, and was a guest lecturer at Yale University. He made his name with Games of the Late Age in 1989 (Critics' Award and National Award for Narrative 1990), which he followed with others including Knights of Fortune, The Apprentice Magician, Today, Jupiter, (Archbishop Juan de San Clemente prize), Absolution (El País's best Spanish novel of the year), The Balcony in Winter (Dulce Chacón prize and Madrid Booksellers Book of the Year 2015), Negotiable Life (Madrid Culture Prize 2017) and the acclaimed Fine Rain, unanimously selected as the best Spanish novel in 2019 and winning the Madrid Critics' Award. Translated into several languages, Landero is one of the essential names in contemporary Spanish narrative.
