Absence is Better
With a PhD in Hispanic Literatures from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, the author has lectured in literature at Lehigh University (Pensilvania) since 2015. Her academic research includes the publication of numerous articles and the essay Displaced Memories: The Poetics of Trauma in Argentine Women Writers. In 2016 Galaxia Gutenberg published her essay The Echo of Shots: The Culture and Memory of Violence, reclaiming culture as a tool to recover from the violent past of the Basque Country. In September 2017 Galaxia Gutenberg also published her first novel Absence is Better, an investigation into the post-industrial Basque Country in the eighties, which won the 2018 best fiction book of the year prize from the Madrid booksellers' guild. Her second novel, I Couldn’t Say When It All Began , was published in June 2019.
