"Since 1880" is a graphic novel, a story without words that reveals the passage of time over the last 140 years. Set in a western city, on a down-town street, we observe the passing of the years from a constant vantage point, watching the changing outfits of the street's inhabitants, different family groups, types of transport and technological advances. In this way, we pass various historical milestones: the World Wars, the 1918 pandemic, the first man on the moon. All these changes occur under the piercing gaze of Chronos, carved into the keystone of an arch above the doorway to the bookstore which is the privileged witness to the succession of events portrayed but is itself susceptible to the vicissitudes of market economics. Painted in acrylics on wood, the illustrations stand out for their detail and historical rigour, the result of a minute process of documentation.
