This beautifully illustrated anthology brings together three of Oscar Wilde's best-known stories: The Happy Prince, The Nightingale and the Rose, and The Selfish Giant. The stories contain some of the themes that most preoccupied the author - selfishness, inequality and suffering - and consider how to counter them with love, compassion and generosity. Three moving stories, beautifully illustrated by Albert Asensio, sad and disturbing perhaps, but also full of magic and poetry. Although some of Wilde's works may not strike the right note today, taken in the context of his life and times they reveal the genius of an author who, despite being much admired and known in some circles, was never fully accepted into the heart of society.
