Some children, sons of prostitutes who don’t dare to report the kidnappings to the police, have disappeared lately in Barcelona. The rumours go around till inspector Moisés Corvo, who thinks that sometimes it is necessary to use the fist or the gun, starts to become interested in the case. He is a bit of a drunkard and hangs around with prostitutes.
Corvo’s investigations take him to a luxury brothel, the house of Moro; the Casino of l’Arrabassada, a cover of a corruption business; taverns, little theatres, eccentric doctor’s offices and extremely poor houses.
Based on a true story in which the woman called ‘la vampira del carrer ponent’ was sadly involved, this case moved Barcelona at the beginning of the 20th century. La mala dona is an original and surprising novel that confirms the literary talent of Marc Pastor. Daring in its approach and structure, the novel awarded with the First Prize of “Crims de tinta” constantly appeals to the sensibility and the intelligence of the reader and has a point of view that leaves no one indifferent.
