The Disappeared and Victims of Forgetting
GERVASIO SÁNCHEZ has been a journalist since 1984. He has been published in the Aragon Herald and La Vanguardia, as well as working with Cadena SER and the BBC. He has produced various photo books, including Kosovo, Niños de la Guerra; Sierra Leona, Guerra y paz; La caravana de la muerte; Las víctimas de Pinochet, Vidas minadas; and Sarajevo 1992-2008 (all published by Blume). He has received a number of prizes, including ones from Cirilo Rodríguez, Club Internacional de Prensa, Andalucía de Cultura, Derechos Humanos de Periodismo, Liber Press y Javier Bueno; also, Aragon institutions awarded him the Santa Isabel de Portugal Gold Medal and the Medal of Professional Merit. In 2008 he won the Ortega y Gasset photography prize for his photograph of Sofía Elface Fumo with her daughter Alia, which also won the 2009 National Photograph Prize. He has been a Unesco Peace Emissery since 1988.
