Born on January 15, 1970 in Santiago, Chile, the author is a professor of Spanish and Teaching in Literature from the University of Chile. He has worked primarily on media, both written and audiovisual. In journalism he has worked as a columnist, a television critic and a political interviewer, mainly for the Chilean newspapers La Nación, El Mercurio, La Tercera, El Metropolitano, as well as for El País, The New York Times, El Gatopardo and Letras Libres. He has also worked for television as a presenter, scriptwriter and director of successful comedy programmes; he has also written scripts for several short films and a feature film by director Marco Enríquez.
His career as a writer began in 1995 with the publication of the book of short stories INVIERNO EN LA TORRE (Editorial Planeta, Chile), which was followed by MEMORIAS PREMATURAS. Some of his stories have been collected in the anthologies SANTIAGO, PENA CAPITAL (Documenta,1990), RELATOS Y RESACA (Planeta, 1990) and COMPASIÓN (Planeta, 2001).
He was awarded the Anna Seghers Foundation Prize (2002).
