Running Railway Lines
A Doctor Civil Engineer from the Universidad Politécnica of Madrid (UPM, 1976). He was a teacher of Railways at the UPM and in the Universidad Politécnica of Valencia during the seventies, and has been a professor of Transport Infrastructures at the UPC since 1983. He has developed his research activity and railroad planning activity in RENFE (1973-1985), Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (1986-2005), International Union of Railways (1976-2005) and has been the manager of the Centre for Transport Research (CENIT) since its foundation in 2000. He is the author of more than 20 books and about 270 articles in specialized magazines as well as in national and international conferences.
He is a member of the publishing committee of the magazines Eisenbahn Technische Rundschau and Railway Technical Review and reviewer for Transportation Research Board (TRB) and the Transport Engineering Journal. Likewise, he is a member of the Committee on Railway Track Structure System Design and the Committee on Guided Intercity Passenger Transportation of TRB.
In 2003 he was awarded the Medal to Professional Merit from the Colegio de Ingenieros de Caminos, Canales y Puertos, and since 2004 he has been a member of the Real Academia de Ingeniería, Royal Academy of Engineering. His research activity is mainly developed in the field of planning new railway lines, complementarity between the different means of transport and optimization in design and maintenance of high speed lines.
