In Berlin, in exile, that is where these characters find themsleves, like bubbles dancing in the air. A similar atmosphere surrounds all the stories, each in its particular setting. Berlin is the centre of an urban utopia, but so is Bilbao, Barcelona, Paris, Copenhagen, London…The stories take place at a time when distances have almost ceased to exist and they touch on the problems, latent or explicit, of personal relationships as we see them today, of identity, roots and the sense of belonging to a certain place.
In this novel, made up of a mosaic of stories, it is the intimate pulse of experience, rather than the action, that drives the narrative. The stories are based on reality but soar from time to time into the realm of fantasy.
