Does the werewolf exist, that creature halfway between a human and a wild beast? How can the violent deaths of so many women in a remote village in Galicia be explained? While the husband of the local schoolmistress tries to give objective, rational explanations of the incidents, the reader will gasp at events that loom in dark backwoods. Maybe the werewolf is, after all, no more than the tool of a mysterious moral judge, as strict as he his arbitrary, who punishes the sordid and fiercely human sins that have been committed in isolated, rural Brañaganda.
