A young biologist is going to write her doctoral thesis in Libya. As there is no cultural exchange between the countries, she will do her research project on her own. She enters on a tourist visa, alone, with no knowledge of the language. She suddenly finds herself immersed in a very different society to her own. The book is based on the author's diary, which attempts to convey Libyan reality through events and stories from the street, leaving interpretation to the reader. It also deals with the figure of Gadafi, more on a social and cultural than political plane, although the government is described. She recounts events which could explain the end of his rule, such as people's irritation at the financing of the African Union, the massive immigrant presence, the repression of Muslims, and the unacceptable interpretation of Islamic laws.
