Jonás swims every day, while on the other side of the glass some slim shadows appear to be observing him. Swimming is Jonás' link with his former life: he hardly sees his parents and he has no other family. One morning his fatheer tells him that his mother has disappeared: she hasn't answered the telephone for two months, and he has been to her flat to find it empty. From then on, Jonás begins to hear similar stories about people who disappear: men and women, children and old people suddenly vanishing, while the city continues to maintain its appearance of normality. After his inicial incredulity, he decides to find his mother, and he gradually discovers his own fear of disappearing. A disturbing novel in the Kafkaesque tradition, about the emptiness and sense of loss of contemporary life.
