Oriol Laclau i Masdéu, construction magnate and socially successful football chairman, dies of apparently natural causes while on a Nile cruise. His sister, Lady Roxana, confesses to her friend Diana Dial, former reporter and amateur detective, that she suspects Oriol was murdered. The journalist feels the case requires her services. A false lady, a shady past, the old glory of the song, and a doctor who is too friendly with the widow are some of the eccentric characters who will travel down the Nile again to discover the culprit. In the best tradition of her much admired Agatha Christie, the action is set in neocolonial Egypt before the fall of Mubarak.
